Delivering a just transition will require a major restructuring of Scotland’s labour market, shifting employment from carbon intensive sectors to low carbon industries. Delivered effectively, this has the potential to create a new generation of unionised, well-paid green jobs, while raising living standards and tackling inequalities. However, communities across Scotland continue to bear the scars of poorly managed industrial transitions of the past. A poorly planned transition could result in significant economic dislocation, unemployment and regional decline. This webinar will bring together a variety of perspectives to discuss the current barriers to a fair and just labour market transition – and the policy interventions required to upskill workers and protect the livelihoods of impacted workers and communities.

Satwat Rehman
Satwat Rehman is the Chief Executive of One Parent Families Scotland (OPFS) and co-chair of Scotland’s Just Transition Commission. She has more than 30 years’ experience in the voluntary and public sector in Scotland and England, working in the fields of equalities, education, employability, economic development/regeneration and early years and childcare. Since joining OPFS in 2011, Satwat has been a member of several commissions and advisory groups including the First Minister’s National Advisory Council on Women and Girls and the Scottish Government’s Social Renewal Advisory Board. She is on the boards of Wellbeing Economy Alliance Scotland and Child Poverty Action Group (UK).
Dave Moxham
Dave Moxham is the Deputy General Secretary at the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC). Dave heads up STUC's Campaigns & Communications team and is responsible for driving forward the General Council’s priority campaign areas. Along with Roz Foyer, he is a key spokesperson for the organisation. Dave coordinates the work of our trades councils, our Organising Group, and is leading on the on-going review of trade union education in Scotland. He also manages our new Just Transition Project longside our long-running Community & Union Development and Unions into Schools projects.
